Sailor's Week 2024

As part of the celebration of Seafarer's Week 2024, the Faculty of Nautical Sciences of our University organized a series of events that promoted learning, links with the industry and the exchange of experiences between students, professionals and graduates.

Among the most notable events was the Conference Series “Port and Maritime Horizons in Panama: Challenges, Innovation and Competencies”, which included the participation of important actors from the maritime and port sector, including the Maritime Chamber of Panama, the Maritime Authority of Panama, PSA International Terminal and Cobre Panamá.

The event allowed our students to strengthen themselves in the face of the demands of the sector and promoted academic cooperation between the university and companies. The students of the Bachelor's Degree in Maritime and Port Administration, together with their teachers, presented presentations on research developed in the classroom, promoting the integration of teaching, research and extension.

Likewise, there was space to meet with graduates, through the discussion "The voice of a Graduate: Experience that transforms lives", held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, with the participation of Licdo. Manuel Návalo, Licdo. Andrés Alfonso and Licda. Arlena Pérez, graduates of the Bachelor's Degree in Maritime and Port Administration.

During the discussion, the graduates shared their professional experiences and provided guidance to the students on the challenges and demands of the labor market, in addition to discussing the graduate profile that a professional in the sector should have. Engineer Ida Baloco also presented a presentation on "Autonomous Ships: Challenges and Opportunities in the Maritime Sector", highlighting the impact of technology in the sector and the need for professional preparation in specific skills.

As part of the Seafarer's Week activities, the students of the Bachelor's Degree in Maritime and Port Administration made a significant donation. Baby baskets, food baskets, and hygiene and personal care supplies were donated to hospitals, nursing homes, and non-profit organizations.

This action highlights the values and social commitment of our students, demonstrating their connection with the environment and the positive impact of our educational practices. Our Neo-Cyberhumanist Curricular Educational Model, with its "Distinctive Badges", promotes the sustainability and humanization of the human being, encouraging intervention in social situations.

To close the Seafarer's Week, the Project Presentation Fair was held, where the students of the Bachelor's Degree in Maritime and Port Administration presented their research on the maritime, port and logistics sector, developed in collaboration with their professors in Classroom.

These events reflect our commitment to the comprehensive training of our students and the close relationship with the maritime and port sector, preparing future professionals for the challenges of the labor market.
