From September 4 to 8, 2023, the Chitré Headquarters of UMECIT carried out a series of academic, extension and research activities to commemorate Social Worker's Day.
At UMECIT, we recognize the fundamental role that Social Work students play in the development of human capital in our region. Therefore, our training seeks to enable them for social intervention based on respect for human rights and social justice. This involves addressing new emerging challenges in society, such as disability, aging populations, changes in family structure, migration and constantly evolving social policies.
During this week of commemoration, various significant activities were carried out. These included the delivery of personal hygiene supplies to the Lions Home for the Elderly, discussions on Human Rights and the Situation of Migrants in Panama, and the dissemination of the research "Gender Violence and Older Adult Women" by teacher Syria Martínez . In addition, the Debate Tournament titled "Psychosocial factors that intervene in health at work" was held, where our students Victor Mudarra from the Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and Human Development, and José Bustavino Barba, from the Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health , stood out by winning First Place in the Debating Tournament.
The week culminated with the Conference Dinner "Orality and Social Workers in multidisciplinary teams in the courts of justice", in which Mr. Victor Hugo from the Judicial Branch and Mr. Marla Arana de Rodríguez participated at the international level. This conference provided an invaluable opportunity for students, graduates and teachers to enrich themselves with knowledge of relevance in their field.
At UMECIT, we congratulate all Social Work students, teachers and graduates for their dedication and contribution to society. Together, we continue to advance social justice and the well-being of our community.
