Rector works to strengthen the academy and internationalization in the Dominican Republic

With a busy schedule, the Rector of the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology - UMECIT- José Alberto Nieto Rojas and the General Vice Chancellor Claudia Marcela Rueda Ossa, seek to join efforts that will benefit the strengthening of the academy, the agreements and the internationalization of this House of Studies.

This February 21, Nieto Rojas met with the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Dominican Republic, Dr. Franklin García Fermín, where work goals were established with the purpose of joining efforts aimed at strengthening ties that result in creating programs at the vanguard and to consolidate mobility agreements.

During a meeting, which took place in the office of Minister García Fermín, the representative of the executive exalted the important work that UMECIT has carried out in Panama and the region, noting that:"Although it is a relatively young university, it has had a great push in higher education and its links with Latin American countries."

The event highlighted the historical and cultural ties between the two nations, within the framework of Latin American unity.

"The government is running a program for granting international scholarships to professionals who are specializing in different areas."García Fermín pointed out.

For his part, Nieto Rojas highlighted the existence of several programs linked to Latin America and the region, which have been successful in Colombia and Ecuador, including the Doctorate in Education

"Basically it is because we wanted to have a body of teachers that nurtures teachers so that they work for education in favor of the Latin American peoples,"Nieto Rojas said.
Likewise, the rector of our House of Studies, had an important meeting in the National Palace with the Vice Minister of the Presidency, José Ramón Holguín, who also serves as president of the Association of Rectors of the Caribbean and Latin America – Arca-, with the purpose of agreeing on the agenda of the international meeting that will take place on June 9 and 10 in Guayaquil, (Ecuador) and where Nieto Rojas is part of the directives of this organization.
In another notable meeting, José Alberto Nieto Rojas and Claudia Marcela Rueda Ossa met with their counterparts, the Rector and the Vice Rector of the Universidad del Caribe, with the purpose of strengthening ties to develop joint programs that benefit students and teachers from both countries. .

In the busy schedule, our rector also had time to meet with professors from the Complutense University of Madrid in order to organize a competency-based curriculum, a methodology that identifies basic skills, knowledge and attitudes that facilitate individual learning.

Likewise, they had an outstanding meeting with the directors of the Polytechnic University of Madrid, an event in which the report on the training and certifications in management and research was delivered to Teachers and Administrative staff of this House of Studies.
All these encounters, rapprochements and meetings will benefit our UMEC community, which will benefit from agreements, conventions and internationalization.
