Panama strengthens maritime training by authorizing UMECIT until 2027
The Directorate General of Seafarers of the Panama Maritime Authority granted a Permanent Authorization, valid until December 3, 2027, to the Maritime Training Center of the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT), thus consolidating the strengthening of maritime human talent training in the country.
This approval is granted after compliance with the provisions of Resolution ADM No. 105-2021 of June 10, 2021, which regulates Maritime Training Centers within and outside the Republic of Panama, authorized to train seafarers on behalf of the Panama Maritime Authority.
Thanks to this authorization, UMECIT will be able to offer a wide range of training programs aligned with international standards, including:
Basic First Aid
Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities
Seafarers' Safety Awareness Training
Port Facility Security Officer
Awareness Training in Protection for Port Personnel
Leadership and teamwork
Boat Operator
Instructor Training
Handling of Hazardous, Potentially Hazardous and Harmful Cargo
These programs comply with the regulations of the SOLAS Convention and the ISPS Code, guaranteeing high-level training focused on the safety, efficiency and competitiveness of the maritime sector.
The accreditation reaffirms UMECIT's commitment to academic excellence and the development of the maritime sector, one of the strategic pillars of the Panamanian economy.
