XI UMECIT Health Fair 2023: Health for All
The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- fulfills its commitment to health and solidarity at the XI Health Fair 2023. This initiative of connection and social work covers different regions where UMECIT has a presence.
Chitre: September 30, the Fair was held to benefit children with Down Syndrome.
David: October 7, the event supported Kathleen Camibel Santos.
Panama: October 14, the Fair was held in favor of the Hogar Bolívar.
Santiago: October 14, in favor of Offer a Home
La Chorrera: October 14 in favor of Building Dreams, Transforming Lives.
The annual activity focuses on promoting healthy lifestyles and providing support to vulnerable groups. The emphasis is on promoting physical activity, recreation and sports as means to strengthen physical culture in Panama and the well-being of the educational community.
The main objective of the Health Fair is to benefit institutions that serve vulnerable populations in Panama. Donations collected go to improve people's quality of life through voting.
This event is open to students, teachers, administrative staff, graduates, strategic allies and the community in general. Each year, UMECIT offices throughout the country partner with a foundation to which the funds raised are given.
Fair in Panama – IBI
The XI Health Fair at the International Bilingual Institute -IBI- was a resounding success, attracting more than 2,000 attendees, including students, teachers, collaborators, entrepreneurs, government organizations and the community in general. The event offered a day of entertainment with games, aerobics, raffles, cultural and inclusive presentations, sports, health services and gastronomic delights.
The day began with a 2.5 kilometer race around the soccer field of the International Bilingual Institute -IBI-, corresponding to 9 laps, in which hundreds of runners participated with enthusiasm. The race included awards in three categories: youth, adults and masters.
The Rector, José Alberto Nieto Rojas, and the Vice Rector General, Claudia Marcela Rueda Ossa, inaugurated the event in Panama, together with two sisters of charity representatives of the Hogar Bolívar, organizations that this year benefited from this solidarity cause.
The rector was in charge of giving the opening words to this event, thanking all the participants. “We thank each of the people who have worked hard for this event today where funds will be raised for the elderly brothers of the Hogar Bolívar. Our thanks to the companies that have supported us, to the students and teachers, administrators,” said Nieto Rojas.
For their part, the nuns Sister Cecilia and Sister Antonieta, who were in charge of saying the prayer at the beginning of the event, thanked the entire Umecista community for their contribution to Hogar Bolívar, an institution that is 140 years old and that operates with the mystique of San Vicente de Paul and Santa Luisa de Marillac, comprehensively caring for older adults.
Likewise, there was space for the Accreditation Directorate, headed by Dr. Gressy Zuñiga, who raised awareness among attendees regarding the accreditation processes that are currently being worked on, corresponding to the Physiotherapy and Occupational Safety and Health degrees. , where it is expected to have the same successful results of both the institutional Reaccreditation and that of the General Psychology Degree that obtained the maximum qualification with 6 years.
“We are working to certify these careers with the highest standards. We are counting on you for this process next year, because together we are going to demonstrate the quality of the processes,” said Zuñiga.
Attendees had the opportunity to explore various stands, where young enthusiasts provided information, products and services to the community.
The most applauded presentations included the Grupo Centinela Foundation, made up of people with motor disabilities, Down syndrome and mental retardation. The K Sar organization, the youngest group, 13 years old, of the Red Cross, who are in charge, through canines, of working in earthquake rescue, searching for people and finding remains of bodies.
Other invited German shepherds were those from the Sinaproc Canine Unit, who did different stunts. Artistic presentations such as that of the IBI Band and the dance group of the Educational Center Bilingual John Demosthenes Arosemena, acrobatics by UMECIT physical education students
Various exhibitors presented products, including Colorhouse, Eyda Carrasquilla Insurance Brokers, Compás Financiero Personal Books, UMECIT Promotion, Fuxion, MiniMed, Óptica Visión Care, Acropolis trainings, Infinity Medical, Conapred, SURA and UMECIT entrepreneurs, along with special guests such as Mr. Luis Ortiz from “Hecho a Ciegas” with his beautiful crafts.
Blood pressure, weight and measurements checks and diabetes monitoring were offered at health stands to assess the physical condition of attendees.
