Last week, Dr. Jessica Candanedo, Principal Member of the National Research Bioethics Committee in Panama, led the discussion titled "Bioethics in Social Research" at the facilities of our University, in an event that attracted teachers and UMECIT students, interested in delving into the relevance of bioethics in the field of research.
Bioethical aspects are essential in any scientific research process, and this activity provided a platform to explore the crucial elements that must be considered in social and humanistic research. These elements are fundamental for the evaluations and approvals required by the Panamanian bioethics committees.
During the session, general guidelines were offered on the best practices that must be observed in any scientific research to ensure compliance with ethical standards and respect the dignity of the individuals involved.
In addition to the discussion, a workshop was held on Procedures for Research Management before the Bioethics Committee, Research Registration before RESEGIS and Drafting of Informed Consents. This workshop, facilitated by Mgter. Efrain Callender, Technical Secretary of the UMECIT Bioethics Committee, detailed the necessary steps to formalize and obtain the approval of investigations before these instances.
These events add to our institution's ongoing commitment to excellence in research, providing students and faculty with the tools and knowledge necessary to conduct rigorous, controlled, and ethical research. The strengthening of these processes is essential for the quality of the research carried out at UMECIT.
