As part of its community outreach efforts, our University continues to develop the Golden Age 2026 Project, an initiative aimed at promoting inclusion, comprehensive well-being and active participation of older adults in the West Panama region.
This program aims to strengthen the autonomy, academic development, and continued productivity of its participants, enhancing their human, emotional, and social capabilities. It also fosters family and community integration, contributing to a better quality of life.
Golden Age is consolidated as a comprehensive initiative that articulates the axes of teaching, extension and research, providing tools that promote empowerment, active inclusion and the development of new skills, especially in the field of entrepreneurship.
As part of the training process, participants receive training in various key areas, including: motivation and leadership, basic computer skills and use of digital platforms, creation and management of ventures, first aid, environmental education, consumer rights, music therapy, digital marketing, entrepreneur financing, medicinal plants and digital literacy, among other relevant topics.
The training sessions take place from April until mid-June 2026, allowing for a continuous process of learning and growth.
The implementation of the project has been made possible thanks to the joint work of teachers, students, graduates, administrative staff, as well as public institutions and private companies, among which stand out the Authority of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (AMPYME), the Consumer Protection and Competition Defense Authority (ACODECO), the Ministry of Environment (MiAMBIENTE), the Chamber of Commerce of Panama West, SINAPROC, among other strategic partners.
With initiatives like Golden Age, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment as an agent of social transformation, promoting intergenerational solidarity, continuous learning and the strengthening of the social fabric in the region.
The project is led by the Extension Department of UMECIT La Chorrera branch.
