World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2023 will be commemorated on April 28, 2023 and will explore the theme of a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work.
In 2003, the International Labor Organization (ILO) began to celebrate the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. At this annual event, the aim is to promote the prevention of work accidents and occupational diseases throughout the world.
It is an awareness campaign within the ILO's global strategy aimed at focusing international attention on the magnitude of the problem and on how creating and promoting a culture of safety and health can help reduce the number of deaths and work related injuries.
Each of us is responsible for stopping deaths and injuries on the job. As governments, we must provide the necessary infrastructure – laws and services – to ensure that workers remain employed and businesses thrive.
This includes the development of a national policy and program and inspection system to enforce occupational health and safety legislation and policy. As employers, we are responsible for ensuring that the work environment is safe and healthy and as workers, we have a responsibility to work safely and protect ourselves and not endanger others, know our rights and participate in the implementation of preventive measures.
