Emotional Award to the Scientific Spirit was held in our House of Studies

As a “Very blessed” year, the rector, José Alberto Nieto Rojas, described all the achievements acquired by our House of Studies this 2022, within the framework of the Scientific Spirit Award ceremony, a space in which researchers, authorities, teachers, students and collaborators.

“The most important achievement was having a 6-year institutional reaccreditation, where we were evaluated by external peers and obtained the highest rating”
pointed out the principal.

Likewise, he praised the place that UMECIT FC obtained to reach the first division and the valuable work of the teams in the different categories. 

“This project is increasingly relevant within Panamanian society, because we socially link sport with education,” said Nieto Rojas.

The recognition of research work during the year 2022 is associated with the institutional mission of UMECIT and defines among its central elements the promotion of research culture, which is why this event became a very special ceremony to enhance this teaching work. .

“It is time to make students fall in love with research and for them the University has the ideal infrastructure, an excellent, dynamic Bioethics Committee, which works for the needs of society,” stated the rector.

For his part, Dr. Eduardo Ortega, National Secretary of Science, Technology and Innovation of Panama –SENACYT- said that scientific research It has to be a model of development for the country. “We require that institutions dedicated to research carry out this type of activities, which is why we congratulate UMECIT for this work,” he said.

In this same sense, the Director of Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies, Magdy De Las Salas, expressed her satisfaction with the important participation in this event, 

“UMECIT's institutional mission defines among its central elements the promotion of a research culture. In this sense, the participation of teachers, as leaders of the research processes that are developed in our House of Studies, within the framework of the calls for project registration has been fundamental so that we can meet needs and provide solutions to the problems that currently demands the environment”,
stated De Las Salas.

The event was also attended by Dr. Luis Carlos Herrera, main member of the National Research Bioethics Committee of the Republic of Panama, who held a Conference called Bioethics in Social Research. 

Within the framework of the event, medals and certificates of excellence were awarded to the most outstanding research teachers of our House of Studies.
