Closing of Psychology Week 2024: Connecting Emotions

Within the framework of Psychologist's Day, the closing of Psychology Week 2024 took place on Saturday, June 22, with a fair whose motto was "Connecting Emotions." The event had the outstanding participation of Mgter. Jill Manuel as keynote speaker.

The fair was a dynamic and educational space in which the 2021 Psychology groups presented several stands dedicated to emotions. These stands highlighted the importance of emotional management, emphasizing that feeling emotions is inevitable and the most advisable thing is to manage them consciously and correctly. Various emotions were explored such as joy, fear, sadness, fury, disgust and surprise, highlighting that emotional management is a crucial skill to manage and channel both positive and negative emotions.

Psychology Week Activities

Mental Health Care: During the week, flyer activities were carried out in Albrook and Avenida Central to raise awareness about the importance of mental health care.

Virtual Conference (Colombia-Dr. Adriana Restrepo): Dr. Adriana Restrepo offered a virtual conference on "Strategies for Learning to Establish Affective Bonds." In it, the importance of healthy relationships, which are based on respect, freedom and love, was addressed. The conference provided strategies to help people establish healthy emotional bonds.

Specialties Symposium: A symposium focused on addiction management and forensic psychology was held, offering an in-depth view of these specialties and their practical implications.

Cinema Forum: The Joker (Monday, June 17): Through the film "The Joker", we sought to raise awareness about the negative effects that social contact can have, especially when the person's early childhood life is unknown. This film forum helped psychology students reflect on the complex process of diagnosing mental illnesses and their genesis.

Conference on the Role of the Media in Mental Health: This conference examined the impact of the media on mental health, discussing how media coverage can influence people's emotional and psychological well-being.

Conference-Workshop: Emotional Intelligence, Emotional Discharge, Self-esteem: In this session, the importance of emotional intelligence and how it facilitates the proper management and discharge of emotions was addressed. Practical strategies were explored to develop healthy emotional skills, promoting personal well-being and positive interpersonal relationships.

Burnout Syndrome Exposure: Burnout syndrome was analyzed, highlighting its symptoms, causes and effective strategies to prevent and manage this phenomenon, which is a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion caused by chronic work stress.

Mental Health Law in Panama: The Mental Health Law in Panama was examined, highlighting its objectives, scope and the importance of its implementation to improve access and quality of mental health services in the country.

We congratulate the groups of Psychology students and teachers for the work carried out during Psychology Week. Their dedication and effort have contributed significantly to the promotion of mental health and emotional well-being, strengthening the commitment to this noble profession.
