Celebration of 27 Years of the Ngäbe-Buglé Region: A Tribute to Our Identity and Culture

The Office of Equalization of Opportunities and Gender of the National Authority for Transparency and Access to Information extends a cordial invitation to everyone to immerse themselves in the rich history and culture of the Ngäbe-Buglé Region, which celebrates its 27 years of foundation.

History and Meaning

Founded in 1997, the Ngäbe-Buglé Comarca emerged as a testimony of the Panamanian government's commitment to the protection of indigenous rights and the preservation of administrative autonomy. Originating from territories in Bocas del Toro, Chiriquí and Veraguas, the region is home to the indigenous Ngäbe and Buglé ethnic groups, as well as peasant communities.

The creation of the Comarca was a response to the threats of exploitation of natural resources and environmental degradation, demonstrating the union and political pressure of indigenous people in search of a sustainable environment that respects their rights.

Mission and Vision of the Government of the Ngäbe-Buglé Region

The Government, in collaboration with the Regional Coordination Council, guides and coordinates plans, programs and projects for the comprehensive development of the Region. Its vision is to be a technical organization that guarantees the execution of objectives to improve the quality of life of the population.
