Visit to the ARC Training Ship “GLORIA”

The students of the Faculty of Nautical Sciences at UMECIT lived an exciting experience board of the training ship ARC GLORIA of the Republic of Colombia.  

These types of training ship experiences are invaluable for Nautical Science students, as they give them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a practical and enriching environment. 

Practical experiences are essential for nautical science students, as they allow them to apply their theoretical knowledge in real-world situations. Here are some common hands-on experiences for nautical science students: 

• Navigation Practices
• Navigation simulations: Use navigation simulators for students to practice planning and executing routes.
• Boat Handling
• Maneuver practices: Learn and practice maneuvers such as docking, undocking, anchoring and the use of different types of engines.
• Maritime Safety
• Emergency simulator: Carry out practical evacuation exercises, use of lifeboats and firefighting.
• Operation of Specific Equipment
• Use of navigation instruments: Become familiar with and use instruments such as GPS, radar and sextants.
• Equipment maintenance: Participate in the inspection and maintenance of navigation equipment and machinery.
