The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT) and the Consumer Protection and Competition Authority signed a Framework Cooperation Agreement, with the aim of consolidating joint efforts for the benefit of academia, students, and society.
This agreement establishes the basis for technical, scientific, and cultural cooperation and will promote initiatives in areas such as:
✔ Professional internships and apprenticeships.
✔ Social work projects.
✔ Training and updating activities.
✔ Research and development initiatives on topics of common interest.
In this way, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to academic excellence, the defense of consumer rights, and the strengthening of social development in Panama.
During the event, Dr. Ramón Abadi Balid, General Manager of the Authority, emphasized the importance of opening spaces for collaboration with academia to enrich professional training and strengthen the culture of consumer protection.
For his part, Dr. José Alberto Nieto Rojas, Rector of UMECIT, emphasized that this agreement serves as a platform of opportunities for students and the university community, in line with the institutional mission of training professionals with integrity and commitment to the country.
The signing of the agreement took place on August 27, 2025, in the Conference Hall of the UMECIT Founders Headquarters.
Representing UMECIT were the Rector, Dr. José Alberto Nieto Rojas; the Vice-Rector for Institutional Projects, Dr. Santiago Nieto; the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Mauricio Sierra; the Administrative Vice-Rector, Dr. María Piedad Nieto; and directors and coordinators from various academic and administrative areas.
Representing the Consumer Protection and Competition Authority, its General Manager, Dr. Ramón Abadi Balid, participated, along with members of his management team, who reaffirmed the importance of this inter-institutional alliance.
With this signing, UMECIT continues to consolidate its position as a university that transcends the classroom, generating social impact through education, research, and inter-institutional cooperation.
