UMECIT Reaffirms its Commitment to the Fanlyc 2024 Relay Race for Life

Once again, UMECIT demonstrates its commitment to the community by actively participating in the Fanlyc 2024 Relay for Life, an event that supports children and adolescents fighting cancer. This year, UMECIT will run under the motto “UMECIT Running for Smiles, Changing Lives,” sponsoring its goddaughter, Asbel García, 10 years old, who bravely faces Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

The event, more than a race, is an act of solidarity where every step counts. For every lap completed, $5 is donated, with the aim of ensuring that no child is left behind. Key dates are:

  • September 1st: Chiriquí – Federal Mall (12 hours)
  • September 8th: Azuero – Mall Paseo Central (12 hours)
  • September 15th: Veraguas – Santiago Boulevard (12 hours)
  • September 28th: Panama – Coastal Belt 3 (24 hours)

UMECIT not only participates, but also organizes supervisory, logistics, transportation, animation and other teams, ensuring that the day is a success.

For 11 consecutive years, UMECIT has been at Fanlyc's side, supporting its work to offer comprehensive care to children with cancer, from medical treatment to psychosocial and educational support. This commitment is part of our mission to strengthen the university's presence in society and to be a driving force for positive change.

One of the pillars of UMECIT's mission is university outreach and its positive impact on society. With the vision of "strengthening the presence of the University in the different sectors of society, with a social criterion", UMECIT is dedicated to addressing social problems and playing an active role in solving community challenges. This commitment has materialized over the years in concrete actions of social engagement, including social practices that allow students to participate in community impact work.

The collaboration with Fanlyc, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing comprehensive support to low-income children with cancer, is a clear example of corporate social responsibility. Fanlyc offers a wide range of services, from medications and transportation to psychosocial support and accommodation for children and their families during treatment. UMECIT's participation in the Relay Race for Life for eleven consecutive years highlights the university's commitment not only to quality education, but also to building a culture of participation and solidarity.

The Relay for Life brings together the community to support more than 500 children and adolescents diagnosed with cancer, providing a unique opportunity to make a tangible difference in their lives. UMECIT is proud to be part of this noble cause and reaffirms its commitment to society, promoting education as a driver of change and collective action as a way to improve the lives of others.

Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it most. Join us in this noble cause!
