UMECIT organizes a series of conferences on advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer

On October 29, 2024, the Faculty of Health Sciences and the University Welfare department of UMECIT will hold an important academic event: the Health Sciences Conference Cycle, whose main theme will be the «Advances in the diagnosis and treatment of cancer». The event will take place at the Auditorium of the Founders' Headquarters  and in hybrid mode, allowing interested parties to connect virtually.

The activity is scheduled to start at 4:00 p.m., and will feature the participation of renowned specialists in oncology, physiotherapy, psychology and other areas related to the comprehensive management of cancer. The experts will offer a multidisciplinary view of the latest innovations in diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of cancer patients.

Objective of the cycle:
The event aims to Inform students and health professionals about the most innovative treatments and highlight the importance of early diagnosis as a crucial factor in the fight against cancer. It is hoped that this academic space will also serve to encourage interaction and the creation of support networks among attendees.

Topics to be developed:

  1. «Rehabilitation in Cancer Patients: The Role of Physiotherapy»Ylenia Cogley
    Explanation of the fundamental role of physiotherapy in the recovery and quality of life of cancer patients.
  2. «Early Detection and Advances in Breast Cancer Diagnosis»Lic. Zuleika De Leon
    Innovations in technology for early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer.
  3. «Breast Cancer Treatment»Dr. Francisco Gomez
    Radiation oncologist from the Panama Oncology Institute, who will discuss the latest strategies in radiotherapy.
  4. «Social and Emotional Impact of Cancer»Specialists in Psychology
    Analysis of the emotional impact that cancer has on patients and their families, and how psychological support can improve their well-being.

Event dynamics:

  • Keynote Lectures: Each exhibitor will offer a 30-40 minute presentation, followed by a question and answer session, to promote interaction with the audience and clarify specific concerns.
  • Multidisciplinary Discussion PanelAt the end of the cycle, the speakers will participate in a panel where collaborative and multidisciplinary approaches to cancer management will be discussed, highlighting the interrelationship between physiotherapy, medicine and psychology.
  • Presentation of Clinical Cases: During the conferences, real cases will be presented covering different stages of cancer treatment, highlighting the importance of a comprehensive approach.

Support materials: Attendees will receive recommended bibliography, research articles and summaries of the presentations to continue delving deeper into the topics discussed.
