UMECIT Strengthens Strategic Links in Santiago for Community Development

On Tuesday, June 11, UMECIT's Santiago headquarters was the scene of a significant meeting with various strategic allies, highlighting the importance of connecting our House of Studies with society and its environment.

At this meeting, a meeting was held with representatives of COOPEVE, the team of the elected mayor, Erick Jaén, and his vice mayor Bernardina Pardo, and the President of the Healthy Environmental Organization of Panama, ABISSA. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss the signing of a cooperation agreement between UMECIT and these entities, aimed at articulating efforts for the development and support of communities in these sectors and populations in vulnerable situations.

If the agreement is carried out, a roadmap will be established with annual work plans for five years, focused on topics such as social connection, entrepreneurship, research and other actions that will enhance our participation in the growth and development of different populations.

During the day, the teachers at the headquarters were trained on topics related to the coordination of the Extension Directorate, ensuring comprehensive collaboration that positively impacts the communities, students, teachers and administrators.

These agreements with public and private institutions and non-governmental organizations will allow the exchange of knowledge and resources, benefiting both the University and the community. They will generate social projects that facilitate the conduct of research and the development of innovative and practical solutions to specific problems in society.

Strengthening the Graduate Network and Teaching Collaboration

In the afternoon, actions were coordinated with our Umecista graduates, seeking to strengthen the network of graduates so that they act as ambassadors of the University in their work environments, helping to establish new connections and opportunities for collaboration.

A meeting was also held with teachers to integrate them into the extension projects, allowing them to be aware of the current needs and challenges of society, which will result in more relevant and updated teaching.

These actions generate benefits that contribute to the sustainable development of the community, addressing social, economic and environmental problems through specific projects. They enhance university social responsibility by aligning academic activities with the needs of society and promoting values of solidarity and commitment.

At UMECIT we firmly believe that social connection through university extension is essential to build bridges between academia and society, promoting an enriching exchange of knowledge and experiences that benefits everyone involved.

The meeting was attended by prominent figures from UMECIT:

  • Licda. Itzel Gonzalez, Graduate Coordinator
  • Master Andrea Pinzón, Agreement and Internationalization Coordinator
