UMECIT successfully closes the Research Greening program

UMECIT has successfully concluded the Research Greening Program with a significant academic event carried out in Chitré. During this event, a total of 14 multidisciplinary investigations focused on topics related to the environment and sustainability were presented. These projects were developed by students and teachers from the Santiago, David, Chitré and Panama campuses of our House of Studies.

Among the topics presented by our researchers included environmental education, forensic entomology in the conservation of the ecosystem in forest areas, geographic information systems, garbage collection, organic waste, landfills, sustainable development of agriculture, territorial planning, climatic variations, protection of mangroves, solid waste management and legal regulations on environmental issues. This effort was carried out in conjunction with the Scientific Council of the Ibero-American Environment Network, with permanent advice and incorporating an international vision to address these problems with scientific criteria and a focus on social connection and contribution.

The event also served as a platform for the presentation of the book "Environmental sustainability in the regions of Panama: Research experiences", which compiles the results of these investigations and is now available to the academic and scientific community at the local, national and international level.

The event was attended by local and national authorities linked to the area of the environment, including the Governor of the province of Herrera, Honorable Elías Corro, and the Bishop of the Diocese of Chitré-Los Santos, Rafael Valdivieso Miranda. Also present were representatives of the Mayor's Office of Chitré, the Environment Directorate of the Ombudsman's Office, the Ministry of Health, the Legal Counsel of the Deputy of Circuit 6-1, honorable representatives of different regions, the National Directorate of Environmental Culture of the Ministry of the Environment, institutional directors of the region and personalities from the academic world.
