UMECIT 2024: A year of transformation through culture, art and social commitment

2024 has been a year of exceptional achievements for UMECIT, consolidating our institutional identity and strengthening the sense of belonging in our vibrant university community. With a notable increase of 10% in participation nationwide compared to 2023, our cultural, artistic and sporting activities have been a clear reflection of the talent, dedication and commitment of our students, values that align perfectly with our mission of forming comprehensive, balanced individuals who are deeply committed to their environment.

Flourishing artistic talent and cultural identity:

This year, UMECIT has strongly supported the promotion of culture and art, achieving extraordinary results:

  • Expansion of folklore: The creation of three new folklore groups in Santiago, La Chorrera and Panama, together with the launch of the dynamic Dance Group, have greatly enriched our cultural offering. These groups have actively participated in key events such as the Health Fair, the Night of the Stars and the Interfaculty Opening Gala, bearing the name of UMECIT and reaffirming our commitment to promoting Panamanian cultural identity.
  • Dance Group: Art in Motion: The newly created UMECIT Dance Group has established itself as a dynamic and versatile team, captivating audiences with their energetic and talented performances at various institutional events. Their presence has added a touch of vitality and artistic expression to university life.

Social Commitment: Making a difference in the community:

Social commitment has been a fundamental pillar in UMECIT's activities during 2024. Our students have demonstrated a great vocation for service, actively participating in various volunteer initiatives that have had a positive impact on the community. Such as:

  • Formula for Life: In partnership with Activo 20-30, they collected donations for vulnerable children, reflecting solidarity and dedication.
  • Cancer Prevention Walk: They supported this noble cause organized by the Betania Community Board, raising awareness about cancer prevention.
  • FAUDI Family Fair: They promoted inclusion and respect for people with intellectual disabilities, strengthening values of empathy and diversity.

.

Comprehensive development and emotional well-being: Caring for our community:

The University Wellbeing Department has played a crucial role in the comprehensive development of our students, leading a series of training workshops focused on personal, emotional and social growth. These initiatives have provided valuable tools for stress management, the development of soft skills and the promotion of a healthy and positive university environment. Some of the highlights:

  • Emotional Management and Intercultural Awareness: Promoted understanding and respect for other cultures.
  • The Art of Self-Acceptance: Strengthened self-esteem and emotional well-being.
