Strategic Meeting at Chitré Headquarters: Strengthening the Connection between UMECIT and the Community

On Monday, June 10, UMECIT's Chitré headquarters was the scene of a significant day of meetings with various strategic allies. These meetings reflect our commitment to connecting our House of Studies with society and its environment, highlighting the importance of social connection in community development and growth.

We met with representatives of the Monagrillo Community Board, the San Juan Bautista Community Board, the Lions Home for the Elderly in Monagrillo and the Children Down Foundation of Herrera. In these conversations, we explored the possibility of signing a cooperation agreement between UMECIT and these institutions, with the aim of articulating efforts that benefit local communities and populations in vulnerable situations.

This agreement will establish a roadmap with annual work plans for five years, covering topics such as social connection, entrepreneurship and research. The planned actions seek to enhance our participation in the development of these communities.

Participation of Leaders and Teachers

The meeting was attended by prominent figures from UMECIT, including the National Director of Extension, Magister Yelitza González; the Graduate Coordinator, Licda. Itzel González; the Agreement and Internationalization Coordinator, Andrea Pinzón; the Extension and Research Coordinator of the Chitré headquarters, Magister Anielka Samaniego; and the Academic Vice-Rector, Dr. Hermes Mauricio Sierra.

Likewise, teachers at the headquarters were trained in all topics relevant to the coordination of the Extension Directorate, in order to ensure comprehensive collaboration that positively impacts communities, students, teachers and administrators.

Agreement Benefits

These agreements with public and private institutions and non-governmental organizations will allow a valuable exchange of knowledge and resources, benefiting both the University and the community. Social projects will be generated that will address specific problems of society, offering innovative and practical solutions.

In addition, opportunities will be provided to students to carry out internships and internships, enriching their academic training and allowing them to apply their knowledge in real contexts. During the afternoon, actions were coordinated with Umecista graduates, strengthening the network of graduates so that they act as ambassadors of the University in their work environments and facilitate new connections and opportunities for collaboration.

Teacher Involvement and Social Responsibility

A meeting was also held with teachers, in order to integrate them into the extension projects. This will allow them to be aware of the current needs and challenges of society, translating into more relevant and updated teaching.

The actions undertaken not only benefit the sustainable development of the community, addressing social, economic and environmental problems, but also enhance university social responsibility. They align academic activities with the needs of society and promote values of solidarity and commitment.

At UMECIT we firmly believe that social connection through university extension is essential to build bridges between academia and society. We promote an enriching exchange of knowledge and experiences that benefits everyone involved, consolidating our role as agents of positive change in the community.
