Academic Practice of Physiotherapy I

The academic practice of the subject Physiotherapy I, led by professor Efraín Callender, was held at the facilities of the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (INMFER), with the purpose of integrating theoretical and practical knowledge in the management of the principles of physical agents and mechanotherapy applied in physiotherapy.

Objectives of the Practice

  • Strengthening clinical training: Apply the principles of physical agents and mechanotherapy in real rehabilitation contexts.
  • Develop technical skills: Manipulate physiotherapy equipment and technologies for specific interventions in different musculoskeletal and neurological conditions.
  • Encourage critical reasoning: To evaluate the effectiveness and appropriateness of evidence-based therapeutic interventions.
  • Promote interdisciplinary work: Recognize the importance of collaboration in health teams to achieve therapeutic objectives.

Activities Carried Out

  • Use of physical agents: Supervised practice of modalities such as thermotherapy, cryotherapy, therapeutic ultrasound and electrostimulation, emphasizing their indications, contraindications and optimal application parameters.
  • Exercises with mechanotherapy: Implementation of assisted and resisted exercises using specialized equipment, highlighting its usefulness in functional recovery and muscle strengthening.
  • Simulated clinical cases: Evaluation and design of treatment plans for patients with different diagnoses, applying physical agents and mechanotherapy as part of the protocol.
  • Biomechanical analysis: Use of measurement tools to assess ranges of motion, muscle strength and postural balance before and after interventions.

Impact of Practice The experience at INMFER allowed students to:

  • Understand the role of physical agents and mechanotherapy in the comprehensive rehabilitation process.
  • Experience a practical approach to the real needs of patients.
  • Improve your manual and technological skills under the supervision of an expert teacher.

This practice is a fundamental pillar for physiotherapy students to develop clinical skills that allow them to effectively and ethically address the challenges of modern rehabilitation.
