Participate in the short film competition "The Art of Weaving Stories": an invitation to create, tell, and transform
The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT), in collaboration with Innova Cine Panamá, is launching a new edition of the short film competition "The Art of Weaving Stories." This initiative aims to foster audiovisual creativity among students at all campuses, positioning film as an educational, critical, and cultural tool within the university environment.
Competition objectives
- Encourage audiovisual production and active student participation.
- Promote content with a critical and proactive approach to cultural, social, and community issues.
- To foster new voices within the university audiovisual field.
Participation requirements
- Be a regular student at UMECIT.
- Teams of up to four (4) members.
- One short film per team.
- Duration between 1 and 5 minutes, including credits.
- MP4 or MOV (H.264) format, Full HD resolution (1920 × 1080).
- Unpublished works suitable for all audiences.
- Mandatory attendance at training workshops.
Competition phases
- Inscription
From July 30 to August 9, 2026.
- Training workshops (virtual format)
From August 10 to 14, 2026.
- Short film submission
Until August 31, 2026.
- Jury evaluation
From September 3rd to 4th, 2026.
- Competition and awards
September 5, 2026.
Benefits and rights
- The works will remain the property of their authors.
- UMECIT may exhibit them for educational and cultural purposes, giving due credit to their creators.

- Jury
The jury will be composed of professionals from the audiovisual, communications, cultural, and academic fields. Their decisions will be final and cannot be appealed.
Final considerations
The organizers reserve the right to modify the dates or conditions of the competition when necessary. Furthermore, if none of the entries meet the established evaluation criteria, the jury may declare the competition void.
This event will be carried out through the University Welfare Department and the Design and Communication Coordination.
