Our University participates in the IOM dialogue: “Private Sector Perspective in the Personnel Selection Process”
In an effort to contribute to the social and economic development of Panama, UMECIT had a prominent participation in panel 2 of the dialogue organized by the International Organization for Migration (IOM), entitled: “Can governments and educational institutions support labour market adaptation?”This event brought together experts from the private, academic and government sectors to discuss strategies to align vocational training with current and future demands of the labor market.
During the panel, UMECIT representatives shared their vision on how education can adapt to the rapid changes in the work environment. Among the key points presented, the following were highlighted:
- Articulation between academia and the private sector: UMECIT stressed the importance of creating strategic alliances with companies from various sectors to identify the skills demanded in the market. These alliances would allow the design of academic programs that respond effectively to the needs of the labor market.
- Cyberhumanist model as an educational response: The institution presented its cyberhumanist model, which integrates technology, innovation and humanistic values. This approach, according to UMECIT, is key to training professionals with technical, digital and ethical skills, essential for navigating an increasingly technological world.
- Training for employability and sustainabilityUMECIT highlighted its commitment to training in high-demand areas, such as logistics, technology and sustainable management, as well as to the development of soft skills that are crucial in a dynamic work environment.
- Role of governments: Throughout the panel, UMECIT highlighted the need for public policies that foster collaboration between educational institutions and the private sector, in addition to promoting technological updating and continuous training throughout the country.
This event reaffirms UMECIT's commitment to the comprehensive development of education and the preparation of its students to face the challenges of a globalized and constantly changing labor market. UMECIT's participation in this space for reflection allows strengthening the ties between education, employment and sustainability, positioning the university as a key player in building a more inclusive and competitive future.

- Gregorio Ordonez Huete, Deputy Minister of Labor and Labor Development.
The main objective of this dialogue was to delve into current strategies and practices to improve the selection process for migrant personnel and facilitate their integration into the labour market in an effective and equitable manner.
