Beyond the diagnosis: a discussion addressed the emotional and social impact of cancer
Understanding cancer beyond its physical implications and recognizing the emotional, personal, and social changes that can arise after a diagnosis was the central focus of the discussion "After the diagnosis: mind, life, and environment in the face of cancer.".
During the discussion, it was emphasized that facing a diagnosis involves not only the patient, but also their environment and those who support them. Emotions, personal and family relationships, and the changes that occur in daily life are all part of a reality that requires understanding, sensitivity, and support.
The meeting included the participation of Ms. Meiling Acevedo, a specialist in Psycho-oncology from the Oncology Institute, who shared her knowledge and reflections on the challenges that people with cancer may experience and the importance of support during this process.
The initiative was developed by the students under the guidance of Professor Jill Manuel, as an experience that allowed them to link their academic training with topics of social interest and contribute to raising awareness in the community.
The activity, developed as part of university outreach activities, was organized by students of the Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and the Bachelor's Degree in Logistics and Multimodal Transport of UMECIT, with the purpose of raising awareness and promoting a more comprehensive and human perspective on this disease.
