As part of the development of a project with territorial impact, progress was made in consolidating cross-cutting institutional participation that integrates the University's core functions: teaching, research, and outreach, in accordance with the pillars of entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainable tourism. While initial support has been linked to Student Welfare, the scope of the initiative demands a coordinated vision that strengthens its academic and social impact.
In this context, the Coordinator of Extension at UMECIT – La Chorrera Campus, Alexis Del Cid, participated, addressing topics related to entrepreneurship, inter-institutional agreements, continuing education, and sharing his experience as a professor in the field of tourism. His presentation aimed to strengthen cooperation between the university and the partner organization, as well as to promote joint studies and projects.
This meeting is part of a comprehensive process developed in the province of Panama West, which has included conducting a territorial assessment, holding a bootcamp for local entrepreneurs, and implementing a series of specialized mentoring sessions. Building on these initiatives, it is considered crucial to create spaces for dialogue that will allow for the sharing of results and, collaboratively, the analysis and proposal of strategies to strengthen tourism and local entrepreneurship.
During the event, a networking session was also held with entrepreneurs and representatives of the foundation, strengthening strategic alliances for future initiatives related to training, peer tutoring, entrepreneurship, and tourism development in the province. These activities actively involve students from the Bachelor's programs in Bilingual Tourism, Marketing, and Business, as well as local entrepreneurs, reaffirming the institution's commitment to sustainable development and community engagement.
