On July 5 of this year at the facilities of the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- a conversation was held with the Honorable Deputy Jorge Bloisse Iglesias, in the company of the legal advisor, Master Marissa Lasso de la Vega, with the participation of some of the rectors and authorities designated by them and who are part of the Association of Private Universities of Panama (AUPPA).
Likewise, at the same event we had the presence of the Executive Secretary of the National Council for University Evaluation and Accreditation of Panama (CONEAUPA) Dr. María del Carmen Terrientes de Benavides and the Deputy Secretary Dr. Ulises Antonio González, who also made their contributions about the Panama accreditation system.
Dr. José Alberto Nieto Rojas, Rector of UMECIT and president of AUPPA, welcomed the deputy and authorities in higher education and invited constant work groups to be held in favor of higher education in Panama.
Nieto Rojas alluded to how the Political Constitution of Panama and the Executive Decrees highlight the importance of this sector that contributes to the development of the country, offering permanent training to the population of Panama and Latin America.
Likewise, Dr. Joaquín Villar-García, Rector of Columbus University and President of the Council of Rectors, as well as Magister Juan Pablo Cardozo, Rector of the Universidad del Istmo, Vice President of AUPPA, intervened, making their contributions and suggestions; Doctor Gustavo Mizraim González, Rector of Isae University, and Treasurer of AUPPA, and Dr. Mariana León as Academic Vice-Rector of Quality Leadership University who in unison expressed their concern about the significant delay in the processes and procedures that have been adopted by some control bodies.
