I Academic Meeting on Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences

In recent days, the Santiago Headquarters successfully carried out the First Academic Meeting on Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences: "Research and experience in the training of experts", a space that brought together students, teachers and graduates around learning, research and professional practice.

The event's purpose was strengthen the training of future experts, integrating academic theory with field experiences, promoting critical thinking and a commitment to justice.

During the day, participants had the opportunity to hear from prominent guest professionals. Mr. José Hernández presented the conference “The Traces That Never Fade: The Life of an Expert in Action”, highlighting the importance of expert work in the search for truth and the defense of justice. For its part, the Eng. Genaro Sánchez S. shared the presentation “Scenes that left their mark: My time in Panamanian forensics”, offering a tour of real cases and the challenges faced in the forensic field.

The students also participated in practical workshops such as:

  • “The right footprint”, where they worked on the identification, collection and preservation of papillary traces on different surfaces.

  • “Criminalistics Puzzle”, which tested their knowledge of the chain of custody and the diligence of ocular technical inspection.

The occasion also allowed recognize outstanding students for his effort, resilience, humanism and contribution to research, as well as highlight the teaching work in academic and professional support.

This first academic meeting constitutes a Starting point to consolidate spaces for dialogue, learning and connection between academia and forensic practice, reaffirming UMECIT's commitment to the comprehensive training of professionals who contribute significantly to Panamanian society.
