The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- paid a heartfelt tribute to the valuable women of its community, recognizing their virtues and their work as workers and administrators of the home. Reliable, strong and upright women, supportive, generous and worthy of admiration.
The winners of the "CECILIA ROJAS DE NIETO" award, 2023 edition, were: «CECILIA ROJAS DE NIETO» 2023 edition were:
Catalina Gonzalez in the category Administrative Woman of the Year; Lisbet Champsaur Mojica in the category UMECIT Teacher of the Year at La Chorrera; Jill Manuel, in the category UMECIT Teacher of the Year at Panama and in the category UMECIT Woman of the Year 2023, Her Excellency Doris Zapata - Minister of Labor and Workforce Development.
During the event, the rector of our University highlighted the importance of women at UMECIT, pointing out their integral value in all the roles they have to play, both in the family and in the workplace. "UMECIT is privileged because 70% of the roles are exercised by a woman and that is why we recognize the important role they play in the community," said the rector.
For her part, the Minister of Labor and Workforce Development, Doris Zapata Acevedo, spoke of the stereotypes that surround our society and limit many women. "The gender of people, man or woman, does not define our capabilities or our skills, it does not determine how good we are, having wrong perceptions of human beings, having gender as a reference is a mistake, which in the long term has repercussions in companies and organizations," Zapata said.
She also highlighted the projects that the Ministry of Labor and Workforce Development has carried out together with UMECIT, with actions that reinforce teamwork to achieve common goals.
The teacher of the Year UMECIT Panama Campus, Jill Manuel, highlighted this recognition, which she said would not have been possible without the support of many people who have been by her side. "I reiterate my commitment to continue working hard, learning and growing in my career. This award inspires me even more to improve and bring more value to my work and to the Umecit community," said Jill.
Both Professor Lisbet and Mrs. Catalina were pleased with this tribute and said they felt very honored.
