Last Thursday, July 18, the students of the Occupational Safety and Health program, accompanied by Professor Jesús Bustamante of the Administration Theory subject, participated in an enriching academic tour in the cable gland department of the Canal Authority from Panama.
During this experience, graduates Andrés Zingh Foster and Adrián Gutiérrez joined the cable management team, who shared their vast experience and knowledge in the field. The students took boat tours along the canal, closely observing operations and understanding the importance of safety measures in such a critical environment. In addition, they received training on essential occupational health and safety topics, such as risk management, accident prevention and the proper use of personal protective equipment.
The tour included visits to key operational areas, where students were able to observe ergonomics practices at work and the correct use of personal protective equipment. Critical topics such as the management of chemical and biological risks, and the application of occupational health and safety principles in the port area were also addressed.
The training sessions offered a detailed insight into how these risks are managed in one of the most important environments in global trade. This day not only strengthened the students' theoretical knowledge, but also provided them with valuable practical skills, reaffirming our commitment to the comprehensive training of future professionals.
This academic tour of the Panama Canal is a clear example of our commitment to practical education and the preparation of our students to face the challenges of the world of work.
