Academic Excursion to the Anton Valley: Strengthening Experiential Learning of the English Language

On November 15, 2025, the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences held an enriching academic day in the Valley of Anton, Coclé province, focused on strengthening experiential learning of the English language through real communicative interactions.

This activity is part of the comprehensive training promoted by the Faculty, integrating theory, practice and cultural experience under the principles of the communicative approach to language teaching.

During the excursion, the students interacted directly in English with guides, residents, and visitors, fostering the development of the four language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Furthermore, the experience allowed them to connect linguistic knowledge with historical, environmental, and sociocultural elements specific to the region, providing a real-world context for applying experiential teaching strategies and strengthening their pedagogical skills as future teachers.

The activity also fostered processes of systematic observation, recording of experiences, and critical analysis. From an investigative perspective, the students generated input for the development of academic reflections and articles. Scientific SeedFocused on experiential language learning, teaching outside the classroom, and the relationship between communication and culture, this exercise promotes critical thinking, teacher self-evaluation, and applied educational research—essential components of quality professional development.

Furthermore, the tour incorporated UMECIT's characteristic social and cultural commitment by fostering respectful engagement with the local community and the country's natural heritage. This connection strengthens the development of an inclusive, sustainable, and socially relevant education.

Place to visit: El Níspero Zoo and Botanical Garden, Valle de Antón, Coclé, Panama.
Date of completion: November 15, 2025.
Accompanying teacher: Mgtr. Diana Montilla.

The activity reaffirms UMECIT's institutional commitment to educational excellence, pedagogical innovation, and the training of professionals capable of transforming learning environments from a humanistic, intercultural, and communicative perspective.
