UMECIT Bilingual Tourism students explore the history and culture of Panama

As part of the History of Panama subject, directed by teacher Abdiel Sanjur, the students of the Bilingual Tourism Degree at the La Chorrera Campus recently participated in an enriching academic practice in the capital city.

This activity is framed within the fulfillment of the objectives of the subject and contributes to the transversal axis of university extension.

During the internship, students had the opportunity to visit several historical and interesting sites, essential for their professional training. Among the places visited are:

  • The Miraflores locks: A marvel of engineering and a key piece of the Panama Canal.
  • The Old Town: Where they explored the Church of Mercy and the Metropolitan Cathedral, important religious and architectural monuments.
  • The Canal Museum: Which offers a deep insight into the history and operation of the Panama Canal.
  • The Amador Causeway: An emblematic place that connects history with modernity.
  • The Biomuseum: Which highlights the biodiversity and ecological importance of Panama.
  • The modern city: Showing the contrast and evolution of our capital.

This experience not only allowed students to expand their knowledge about the history and culture of Panama, but also to better understand the practical aspects of their future profession in the tourism sector.
