Occupational Health and Safety students analyze Bill 250

Within the framework of the commitment to strengthening and recognition of the profession in the field of Occupational Safety and Health, the students of 4th quarter of the race, together with the teacher Denise Ortega, from the Faculty of Health Sciences, actively participated in the Analysis and discussion of Draft Law 250.

This legislative proposal seeks to regulate the exercise of Occupational Health Technicians and Graduates, establishing clear parameters on its training, skills and scope of work within the different productive sectors of the country.

During the day, key aspects of the preliminary draft were addressed, highlighting the importance of having a regulatory framework that guarantees the quality of professional practice and protect the rights of those who work in this area. The need for regulation was highlighted due to the increase in Foreign professionals and companies operating without certification, as well as the growth in the rate of work-related accidents and occupational diseases, which makes more rigorous control of the sector essential.

The students had the opportunity to learn in depth the legal basis of the project, supported by the National Constitution, resolutions of the Ministry of Labor and Workforce Development and regulations of the Social Security Fund. The role of the professional associations in the promotion of this law, which seeks to establish academic profiles and training standards for future specialists in Occupational Health and Safety.

This activity allowed students to understand the impact that this regulation will have on your professional performance, reinforcing their sense of responsibility and commitment to the development of their discipline.

The day concluded with a reflection on the importance of initiatives that contribute to the recognition and professionalization of the sectorBoth teachers and students expressed their support for the proposal, highlighting that its approval would guarantee a work practice based on ethics, responsibility and professionalism. Emphasis was placed on the need to continue promoting spaces for dialogue and integration between the academic sector and the governmental sphere to promote significant progress in the regulations governing Occupational Health and Safety in Panama
