UMECIT Sports 2024: A year of achievements, integration and growth
2024 consolidated UMECIT as a benchmark in the sports field, marking a 25% increase in participation in sports activities compared to the previous year. This growth is the result of innovative strategies that integrated students, teachers and administrative staff, promoting health, coexistence and teamwork. Through key initiatives such as Ironman Panama, university and school tournaments, and activities of the Culture and Sports Commission of the Council of Rectors, UMECIT stood out in local, national and international competitions, reaffirming its commitment to the comprehensive development of its university community.
From iconic events such as the Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament, the Mixed Interfaculty 11-a-side Football Tournament, to the University Basketball League (CLB) and participation in the Master Swimming Cup, our University not only strengthened the sense of belonging among its members, but also offered significant opportunities to identify and promote sports talents.
This comprehensive approach shows that at UMECIT sport is much more than competition: it is a transformative tool that inspires leadership, fosters values and connects new generations with a future full of academic and professional possibilities.
1. Ironman Panama 2024
UMECIT reaffirmed its commitment to the physical and emotional well-being of its community by participating in Ironman Panama 2024, achieving a 25% increase in participation compared to 2023. For the second consecutive year, our University positioned itself as the institution with the greatest voluntary representation in the country, highlighting the enthusiasm and unity of students, teachers and collaborators.
2. Master Swimming Cup «The Octopuses of the Isthmus 2024»
Our swimming team won a total of 18 medals: 9 gold, 6 silver and 2 bronze, placing in the top 8 of the competition and reaching 5th place in the overall ranking. This achievement highlights the commitment to sporting diversity and the strengthening of comprehensive skills.
3. ElevateU College Volleyball Tournament
In its first edition, UMECIT was crowned champion in the men's category and obtained third place in the women's category, competing with universities such as UDELAS, QLU and UDI.
4. David University Futsal League
The David futsal team made its debut in a high-level competition, facing teams such as UNACHI, Universidad de Panamá, ISAE, UTP and OTEIMA, setting a precedent for future tournaments.
5. University Basketball League (CLB)
After a break since 2022, UMECIT reached second place in the University Basketball League, strengthening inter-university ties and promoting cultural exchange.
6. Mixed Interfaculty 11-a-side Football Tournament
In its second edition, the tournament registered a 33% growth in participation. The Faculty of Health took first place, followed by Humanities, Criminology and Law.
7. Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament 2024
The Intercollegiate Volleyball Tournament promoted school permanence and provided opportunities for university scholarships based on sporting merit, consolidating the link between sport and academia.
In 2024, UMECIT consolidated its position as a leader in inclusive education, comprehensive training and social commitment. Each initiative reaffirmed the mission of transforming lives through educational innovation and the development of values that strengthen the university community.
