10th Edition – Cecilia Rojas de Nieto Award: A Life of Inspiration, Values and a Legacy that Transcends

The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- opens the call for nominations for outstanding women who will be recognized with the Cecilia Rojas de Nieto Award 2026, an institutional award that honors leadership, empowerment and contribution to the sustainable development of Panama.

In this tenth edition, under the motto "Footprint of Life, Values and Legacy that Transcends", the University reaffirms its commitment to highlight and recognize professional women who have been able to integrate their family and work life in an exemplary way, demonstrating that it is possible to harmonize personal and professional responsibilities with a positive impact on the educational community and on society.

This award is given to women who demonstrate leadership, commitment, and a vision for the future; who, as mothers, make significant contributions in the professional, social, and economic spheres. In a context where the female role has traditionally been limited to homemaking, the awardees represent a model of well-rounded women who transform their environment, contributing to the building of more just, equitable, and sustainable societies.

Inspired by the life and legacy of Mrs. Cecilia Rojas de Nieto, mother of our Rector, this award highlights the example of a hardworking woman, an exemplary mother and a role model of solid values, whose greatest evidence of transcendence is reflected in the formation of generations of integrity, empathetic and committed to the common good.

In keeping with the spirit of the recognition, The candidates cannot nominate themselves and must be mothers.. The aim is to honor the well-rounded woman: professional, worker, mother and, in many cases, wife, who with her dedication and effort leaves an indelible mark on her family, her community and society.

Requirements to apply:

Being a woman linked to UMECIT (teacher, administrator, student, graduate or allied entrepreneur) or a member of the general community with a positive impact on the environment, this in the professional woman category.
Demonstrate leadership, empowerment, and social commitment.
Present achievements or projects with an impact on your area of action or community.
