UMECIT and MINSA Herrera strengthen a strategic alliance for the development of research with social impact.

On Friday, July 18, the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT) held a high-level meeting with officials from the Ministry of Health (MINSA) in the Herrera Region. The meeting aimed to strengthen inter-institutional collaboration in research and social outreach.

Present at the meeting, which took place in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue, were Dr. Hilario Correa, Provincial Director of the Herrera Health Region, and representatives from UMECIT:

  • Dr. Magdy De las Salas, Director of Research and Innovation

  • Dr. Marcela Arana, Academic Director

  • Dr. Yelitza González, Director of Extension

  • Mgter. Anielka de Samaniego, Research and Extension Coordinator – Chitré Campus

  • Dr. Abilio Moreno, Research Center Coordinator

This meeting had as its main objective strengthen the strategic alliance between both institutions and consolidate the development of research projects focused on local problems with high social relevance.

Among the studies discussed are:

  • “Incidence of gastrointestinal diseases associated with wastewater in the community of Boca de Parita, Monagrillo, Herrera (Year 2025)”

  • "Impact of environmental and health education on Aedes aegypti mosquito control in the La Arena district, Chitré, Herrera province"

The exchange of ideas allowed for a broader horizon for future joint initiatives, especially in community health and preventive education, where the participation of students, faculty, graduates, and the broader academic community will be key to generating a real impact.
