Umecit – University in Panama

UMECIT joins the FANLYC 2025 National Collection with actions that transform lives.

The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- reaffirmed its commitment to solidarity and social welfare by actively participating in the FANLYC National Collection 2025, carried out on the days May 2 and 3 in the provinces of Panama and Veraguas. This significant event benefited more than 500 children diagnosed with cancer across the country.

Student volunteers of the program Volunteering with Purpose, accompanied by the teachers Professor Blexie Rodríguez (Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Panama headquarters) and Professor Sindy González (Bachelor's Degree in Criminology and Forensic Sciences, Santiago campus), represented the Umecista community with dedication and commitment during the collection, demonstrating once again the spirit of solidarity that characterizes our institution.

Participation in this activity is part of a collaborative alliance that UMECIT maintains with the Friends of Children with Leukemia and Cancer Foundation (FANLYC), allowing the constant development of social actions with real impact.

In addition, as part of the Good Deeds Month (April 2025) and under the institutional motto “Good deeds with purpose”, various initiatives were developed that strengthened the community fabric:

  • ✅ Colecta gigante simultánea en todas nuestras sedes

  • ✅ Entrega oficial de lo recaudado a FANLYC

  • ✅ Foro “Health with Purpose", which marked the closing of the campaign

These activities were organized in a coordinated manner by the Directorate of University Extension, Coordination of Social Linkage, University Welfare, Academic Directorate, Communications Department, Career coordinators and the Academic Vice-Rectory.

At UMECIT, we thank every student, teacher, and collaborator who made this event possible. We continue to demonstrate that purposeful education transforms realities!
