Developed jointly with the Ibero-American Environment Network of Ecuador, the Research and Extension Environmentalization Program has been a significant initiative for achieving the institutional strategic objectives and research priorities provided for in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). .
Since 2023, a total of 14 research projects have been started that address environmental issues of great interest in the provinces of Panama, La Chorrera, David, Santiago and Chitré, positively impacting various communities and organizations.
The identification of problems through direct field practices was the starting point for a rigorous scientific approach process. This process was strengthened with the continuous advice provided to the research teams responsible for the projects by the Science and Technology Unit (UCYT), attached to the UMECIT Research and Innovation Center. The UCYT offered spaces for the proper execution of methodological processes and the dissemination of results, using advanced technological tools for research as part of its services.
For our university, the quality of institutional research is fundamental. Within the framework of our twentieth anniversary, we will close this important Program next July with the sample of results and the presentation of a book derived from the studies carried out. This book will be of special interest to public and private institutions linked to sustainable development, as well as to the academic and scientific community in general.
