UMECIT promotes food education with the conference "Don't Eat More Stories"

Within the framework of the World Food Day, our House of Studies, held the conference “Don’t eat any more stories”, dictated by the Dr. Gildardo Uribe, prominent nutritionist and dietitian at the University of Antioquia (Colombia).
The activity was organized by the Academic Vice-Rectory and its purpose was to promote nutritional education based on scientific evidence, dispelling myths and erroneous beliefs about nutrition that circulate in everyday life.

During his presentation, the Dr. Uribe addressed key issues such as nutritional misinformation, the Fake News in food, the influence of the food industry and the importance of making conscious decisions at mealtimes, prioritizing health and sustainability.

Among the main myths that were debunked were:
“Skipping breakfast helps you lose weight.”
“Water makes you thin.”
“Milk is not food for humans.”
“Gluten is harmful.”
“Fruits are harmful because of their sugar.”

The day featured the opening remarks of Vice-Rector of UMECIT, Dr. Hermes Mauricio Sierra, who emphasized the institutional commitment to the training of critical, informed, and socially responsible professionals. Students from the Faculty of Health Sciences, who were nourished—literally and symbolically—with valuable information for their future professional performance.

With this activity, UMECIT reaffirms its commitment to health education, sustainability, and comprehensive well-being., contributing to the fulfillment of the SDG 2: Zero Hunger and strengthening awareness of the importance of responsible, science-based nutrition.
