At the UMECIT headquarters in La Chorrera, a meeting was held with the participation of the Director of Community Development of the Municipality of La Chorrera, Nicole Jiménez, representing Mayor Eloy Chong, along with 21 elderly women from different districts of the district.
The purpose of the visit was to learn about the social engagement project “Golden Age”, This initiative aims to promote inclusion, lifelong learning, and the overall well-being of older adults. The event demonstrated the interest of both municipal authorities and participants in joining the program.
During the event, Master's candidate Alexis del Cid presented the project's approach, highlighting the training process, knowledge transfer, and the integration of participants as active members of the academic community. Also participating were Master's candidate Isabela Cuevas, academic coordinator for the areas of Psychology, Social Work, and Early Childhood Education, and Bachelor's candidate Víctor Tejada, coordinator of Psychology, who emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary support.
The attendees expressed their willingness to join the third group of the “Golden Age 2026” project, continuing this community impact initiative.
Highlights of the meeting included the participants' interest in continuing their education, the strengthening of personal and social skills, the value of intergenerational exchange, and the consolidation of collaboration between the municipality and the university. Furthermore, future activities were planned to expand the program's reach in the region.
This meeting reaffirms UMECIT's commitment to social inclusion, lifelong learning, and the recognition of the contribution of older people to society.
