The academic vice-rector of the Metropolitan University of Educational Sciences -UMECIT-, Dr. Hermes Mauricio Sierra, participated in the III International Forum “Importance of University Cooperation for Sustainable Development”, where he highlighted the strategic role of university cooperation, both nationally and internationally, for the fulfillment of the objectives of higher education.
During his speech, Dr. Sierra emphasized that university cooperation is a fundamental pillar of UMECIT's Curricular Educational Model, strengthening two of its strategic axes: sustainability and global citizenship, conceived as essential competencies for the training of professionals committed to the social, environmental and ethical challenges of the 21st century.
In this context, he presented UMECIT's history and experience of cooperation with the Ibero-American Network for the Environment (REIMA), highlighting the development of applied research projects, training programs, participation in national and international congresses and, especially, the contribution of these initiatives to the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
He also emphasized that these alliances strengthen academic quality, internationalization, and community engagement, reaffirming UMECIT's commitment to relevant, inclusive higher education with territorial impact, geared towards building responsible global citizenship and truly sustainable development.
