UMECIT David successfully holds the International Forum on Forensic Sciences

In commemoration of Criminology Day, the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT), David campus, held the International Forum on Forensic Sciences on August 28 and 29. This event brought together leading national and international experts in the field of criminology and forensic science.

During the forum, keynote presentations were given on topics of great relevance to forensic practice, including:

  • Digital Evidence and Metadata: Challenges in Criminal Investigation – Sean Vásquez (Mexico).

  • Dactyloscopy and lofoscopy: current techniques – Wilber Torres (Peru).

  • Digital forensics and cybercrime – Mg. Lizbardo Orellano Benancio (Peru).

  • The crime scene: common mistakes and best practices – Lic. Henry Cedeño (Chiriquí, Panama).

  • Challenges of forensic medicine in Panama: scenes and expertise – Dr. Ariel Flores (Chiriquí, Panama).

  • Forensic fingerprinting in Panama – Carlos González (Chiriquí, Panama).

  • Forensic ballistics – Lic. Denciabel Mendoza (Veraguas, Panama).

  • Professional Ethics in Forensic Sciences – Brandon Mendoza and Ixchel López (Mexico).

In addition, students from the Forensics programs at the Santiago and David campuses presented progress reports on their research projects, demonstrating their commitment to critical thinking, scientific research, and innovation in the field.

The opening ceremony was led by Hermes Sierra, Academic Vice-Rector, and Myriam Agudelo, coordinator of the David campus, who highlighted the importance of creating academic spaces that strengthen the training of future professionals in this discipline.
