UMECIT successfully concludes the Second Training Sessions of the "Golden Age" Project

The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology (UMECIT), La Chorrera campus, successfully held the second training sessions for the social engagement project. “Golden Age”, aimed at senior citizens with the purpose of promote digital inclusion and strengthen basic technological skills in older adults.

With the support of students from the Bachelor's Degree in Systems and Programming (Saturday group) and under the guidance of the teacher Mirna M. Samaniego G. and the teacher Andrés Noval, key topics were addressed such as:

  • Digital literacy: Basic computer concepts and operating system usage.

  • Use of communication platforms: Practice with WhatsApp, Zoom video calls, and email writing.

  • Creating personal blogs on platforms such as Blogger or WordPress.

  • Office Tools: Word for documents, Excel for records and PowerPoint for simple presentations.

  • Exchange spaces: discussion forums and shared digital experiences.

This teaching-learning process integrated substantive areas of UMECIT:

  • Academic: students and teachers strengthening the balance between teaching and learning.

  • Research: data collection on the impact of digital literacy on the quality of life of older adults.

  • Extension: training activities that directly benefit the community.

  • Management: strategic coordination that allowed the project to be carried out successfully.

The culmination of these days is a firm step towards building a more fair, inclusive and digitally integratedUMECIT reaffirms its commitment to social transformation through education and technology, actively involving all sectors of the population.
