UMECIT Chitré and IOM-UN provide training on the Humanitarian Security Protection Permit

On May 6, 2025, the Extension Coordination of the Chitré headquarters of UMECIT organized, in alliance with the International Organization for Migration (IOM-UN), a training day focused on the Executive Decree No. 6 of March 11, 2025, which establishes the Humanitarian Security Protection Permit.

The activity was aimed at students and teachers of the Bachelor's Degree in Law and Political Science, with the aim of providing updated legal tools for managing immigration regulations and strengthening the role of our future professionals as informed humanitarian agents.

This permit seeks to provide legal stability to foreigners who have been in the country illegally for at least one year, granting them rights such as legal employment and the ability to apply for residency.

We were accompanied by the IOM-UN:

  • Idiam Osorio, National Migration Management Officer

  • Abdiel Mena, Senior Project Associate

  • Krystel Santamaría, Project Associate in Migrant Regulation

  • Dagmara Maria, Social Change Projects Associate

An enriching afternoon that reinforces UMECIT's commitment to the comprehensive education of its students and the promotion of human rights.
