UMECIT celebrates its university championship in the UPD 2025 Tournament: a triumph that articulates sport, comprehensive education, and commitment to the SDGs

The Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology -UMECIT- proudly celebrates the outstanding victory of its university football team, who rose as champion of the 2025 UPD Tournament, consolidating an achievement that goes beyond the sporting aspect and reaffirms the institutional commitment to comprehensive training based on values, excellence, and social responsibility.

This triumph was possible thanks to the strategic leadership of the Technical Director Freddy Romero, who guided with vision and discipline a team made up of students committed both on the field and in their academic process. Many of them, in addition, have benefited from international scholarships, thus strengthening their professional and human development.

The victory is a direct reflection of the implementation of the UMECIT Curricular Educational Model, which promotes five training stars: Innovation, inclusion, sustainability, global citizenship, and academic excellence. In addition, it highlights how the University sport becomes a cross-cutting axis for the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially:

  • SDG 3: Good health and well-being

  • SDG 4: Quality Education

  • SDG 10: Reducing inequalities

This achievement is also the result of solid institutional coordination, in which the Department of University Welfare, he Physiotherapy Office, he Nutrition Clinic and the academic coordination of the different programs. A true example of the collaborative work and impact that comprehensive education can have on our students.

UMECIT continues to demonstrate that sport is a powerful tool for transforming lives, inspiring leadership, and building community.
