Latent Fingerprint Development Workshop strengthens technical skills in Criminalistics students

UMECIT carried out the Latent Fingerprint Development Workshop aimed at students of the subject Ocular Inspection I of the Bachelor's Degree in Criminalistics and Forensic Sciences, under the guidance of the specialist teacher Prof. Abel Guevara.

The workshop aimed to train participants in the use of cyanoacrylate, the application of fluorescent powders, and the use of forensic lighting for developing, documenting, and collecting latent fingerprints on non-porous surfaces. As part of the practical component, students built their own cyanoacrylate chamber, applied polymerization techniques for fingerprint plastination, and then enhanced the prints using specialized forensic lighting.

The workshop combined theory and supervised practice, allowing participants to strengthen their skills in processing fingerprint evidence, as well as in using expert protocols and formats. The results demonstrated a high level of understanding and correct application of the techniques, highlighting the importance of fingerprints as a key piece of evidence in criminal investigations.

This activity integrated the substantive functions of teaching, research, outreach and management, reaffirming the institutional commitment to specialized practical training, academic excellence and the strengthening of criminal investigation.
