UMECIT Education, Environment and Community Workshop with BIOCAR Recycle

With the aim of promoting environmental awareness and encouraging active participation in sustainable practices, UMECIT's La Chorrera campus held the Education, Environment, and Community Workshop in partnership with BIOCAR Reciclan. The activity focused on education about recycling used vegetable oil and transforming it into biodiesel, while also promoting volunteerism and university social responsibility.

The main objectives of the workshop included:

  • Educate students, teachers, and administrators about the environmental and health impacts of improper disposal of vegetable oil.

  • To raise awareness about the recycling process and its conversion into biodiesel as an ecological and sustainable alternative.

  • Promote the active participation of students of the Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Management in volunteer programs.

  • Promote an internal campaign to collect used vegetable oil as part of the 2025 Health Fair.

  • Reaffirm UMECIT's institutional commitment to environmental protection through strategic alliances.

The workshop also allowed for the integration of the substantive university functions:

  • Teaching: Meaningful learning was strengthened by applying theoretical knowledge to real-life practice.

  • Research: Ideas were generated for future projects on recycling, renewable energy, and environmental education.

  • Extension: The link between the university and the community was consolidated through BIOCAR Reciclan.

  • Management: The activity demonstrated planning and collaborative work between different areas to achieve the established objectives.

This workshop reaffirms UMECIT's commitment to sustainable development, environmental education, and the development of citizens who are responsible for their environment.
