Our institution strengthens its leadership in quality assurance by obtaining international certification of the Management System for Educational Organizations (ISO 21001:2018) and by successfully renewing the certification of the Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015), reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence and continuous improvement in all its institutional processes.
The ISO 21001:2018 standard, developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), defines the requirements for an Educational Organization Management System (EOMS), aimed at ensuring quality education focused on the student and stakeholders. This certification builds upon the principles of ISO 9001:2015 and incorporates essential approaches such as social responsibility, accessibility and equity, ethical conduct in education, and data security and protection—fundamental aspects for contemporary and sustainable educational management.
The certification was approved on January 21, 2026, and will be valid until January 20, 2029. It was awarded by the certifying body Servimeters after a rigorous evaluation and verification process to ensure compliance with international standards. This certification covers all UMECIT campuses, comprehensively strengthening its institutional management system.
In parallel, the renewal of ISO 9001:2015 confirms the effectiveness and strength of UMECIT's quality management system, ensuring efficient administrative and academic processes, geared towards the satisfaction of its university community and the fulfillment of its strategic objectives.
This double achievement positions UMECIT as a pioneering institution in Panama, becoming —according to available records— the first university in the country to simultaneously hold ISO 21001:2018 and ISO 9001:2015 certifications, setting a precedent in higher education management.
Obtaining these certifications is the result of the effort, commitment, and coordinated work of authorities, teachers, administrative staff, and collaborators, who day after day promote a culture of quality, innovation, and continuous improvement.
