Umecit – University in Panama

Our House of Studies continues to shine in research with social impact

We are extremely proud to share that UMECIT obtained third place in the Health Sciences area at the 2025 Scientific Initiation Conference, thanks to the excellent research work entitled:

“Main Latin American morbidities associated with the ingestion of contaminated drinking water.”

This outstanding research was conducted by talented students Leira Consuegra and Nicole Villarreal, from the Bachelor's Program in Medical Records and Health Statistics, under the dedicated and expert guidance of their mentor, Karen Botello, at our UMECIT Chitré campus.

This achievement not only recognizes the academic rigor of our students and their instructors, but also their deep commitment to the social issues affecting our region, demonstrating that formative research is a powerful tool for raising awareness, transforming realities, and providing concrete solutions.

At UMECIT, we believe in research as a pillar of comprehensive education, and this result demonstrates that when we work with passion, discipline, and social vision, we shine on national academic stages.

We congratulate Leira, Nicole and Professor Karen for excellently representing the investigative and humanistic spirit of UMECIT!
