Career Description

The Clinical Psychology It is a branch of psychology that focuses on the assessment, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental and emotional disorders. Clinical psychologists work with individuals, couples, families and groups to help them improve their mental health and well-being.

  • Private clinics and offices: Evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of mental and emotional disorders in individuals, couples, families and groups.
  • Mental health institutions: Hospitals, psychiatric clinics, community mental health centers, etc.
  • Educational institutions: Universities, colleges, schools, etc.
  • Non-governmental organizations (NGOs): Mental health prevention programs, care for victims of violence, etc.
  • Companies: Employee assistance programs, personnel selection, training and organizational development.
  • Legal field: Psychological counselling in legal proceedings, assessment of mental capacity, etc.
  • Research: Development of research projects in the field of clinical psychology.
  • Teaching: Teach classes in undergraduate and graduate programs in psychology.

All applicants must submit the following documentation duly scanned from the original and sent to the promoter to be uploaded to the respective platform:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology or equivalent. 
  • Credits or grades from a Bachelor's degree in Psychology or its equivalent. 
  • Identity document, ID card or passport in the case of foreigners and residing in Panama during their studies. (In case the student is a minor, the juvenile ID card and the identity document of their guardian).
  • A passport size photo.
  • Fill out the admission form in electronic format with the promoter.

 Note: Students enrolled in virtual modality whose nationality is different from Panamanian, must present a copy of their personal identity document from the country of origin. 

If you are a foreigner, the aforementioned documents must be apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of your respective country. In the event that the country does not have a consulate, it must be processed before the official authorities that validate it.

The permanence in the University will depend on the student's motivation, capacity and vision to obtain the chosen degree.

Given the profile of the University's "NEOCYBERHUMANIST" curricular educational model, the student must:

  • Pass each subject with a minimum grade of 81 on a scale of 1 to 100, which is equivalent to literal B.
  • Maintain a cumulative index of no less than 2.0.
  • In the first year, take a certification exam for a second language recognized by UNESCO, in accordance with internal regulations.
  • Study in teams and individually.
  • Develop research skills based on discovery learning.
  • Deepen in the disciplinary knowledge that is of interest to them.
  • Respect and comply with the regulations established by the statutes that regulate the relationship between the University and the students.
  • Be up to date with their monthly payments.
  • Attend at least 80% of the meetings under the face-to-face modality.
  • For studies under the virtual modality, attendance is regulated by constant interaction in all activities planned on the platform, including synchronous and asynchronous meetings, as well as the development of the student's autonomous work.
  • In case of prolonged absence, a justified justification must be presented.
  • All students of the Master's programs in Clinical Psychology must have basic computer skills.

In order to obtain the Master's Degree it is required:

  • Complete and pass all the academic content of the program enrolled.
  • Complete and pass all the subjects of the curriculum with a minimum grade of 81 points equivalent to a B.
  • Maintain a cumulative academic index of not less than two (2.00) on a scale of three (3.00).
  • Take a certification exam of a second language recognized by UNESCO, in accordance with internal regulations.

Degree option (choose one of the following requirements).

  • General knowledge exam with no credit value.
  • Professional practice.
  • National or international internship.
  • Support for a final project that includes the application of knowledge from the specialization.
  • Comply with all academic and administrative requirements within a period not exceeding four years of permanence in the program.
  • Be at peace and safe with the institution (financial, academic and library).

Graduates of the Master's program in Clinical Psychology from the Metropolitan University of Education, Science and Technology have the necessary skills to:

  • Supervise and/or carry out evaluation, diagnosis, and clinical intervention processes, and/or prevention and promotion of mental health.
  • Provide advice and guidance on actions within the framework of Clinical Psychology for different organizations and/or professionals in the public and private sectors.
  • Participate in the formulation of public policies focused on mental health.
  • Formulate, evaluate and/or execute research with a clinical perspective, which contributes knowledge to the field of Psychological science.
  • Work as teaching staff in undergraduate or postgraduate courses in areas of knowledge included in the field of Clinical Psychology.

Know:

  • Master the theoretical and practical fields for carrying out clinical psychological evaluation, diagnosis and intervention processes.
  • Generate advanced knowledge in research methodology and its application in the field of Clinical Psychology.
  • Be clear about each aspect of the Psychologist's Code of Ethics and apply it in their professional work.
  • Be constantly updated on instruction techniques and methods in the field of Clinical Psychology.
  • Identify, analyze and understand the main behavioral and/or neuropsychological disorders in childhood and adolescence.
  • Know the properties of drugs that can be prescribed and applied to certain types of people according to their symptoms.
  • Possess the clinical skills necessary for the cognitive evaluation and diagnosis of patients with acquired brain damage.

Do:

  • Apply their knowledge in evaluation, diagnosis, and clinical intervention for the care of individuals, couples, families, groups, and communities.
  • Conduct and/or supervise research in the areas of knowledge of Clinical Psychology.
  • Provide training in health procedures that include mental health promotion and prevention.
  • Intervene appropriately in social integration processes that benefit high-risk populations in situations of exclusion
  • Build therapeutic scenarios that facilitate the care of patients suffering from severe behavioral disorders.

  • Have a sense of reflective self-criticism that allows you to strengthen your weaknesses and make better decisions.
  • Generate spaces for citizen participation where healthy coexistence is promoted, being an example of being a participatory and exemplary citizen.

Be:

  • Possess leadership and teamwork skills that allow them to practice their profession in cooperative contexts.
  • Maintain a positive and proactive attitude when dealing with people, which supports their psychotherapeutic processes and their consistency in investigative processes, from a clinical perspective.
  • Have a willingness to learn and communicate, which will allow you to share your ideas, clarify your doubts and be flexible in the face of other points of view and new knowledge.

  • Make use of their innovative skills for their professional and research practice.
  • Possess the skills to follow up on one's own initiatives and be in a constant process of reconstruction to face challenges, which are strengthened and addressed.
  • Provide work spaces with voluntary attention to the population.
