Research with social impact materializes in La Chorrera thanks to UMECIT

UMECIT's commitment to knowledge transfer and social contribution through scientific research is realized in concrete initiatives that transform lives.

On April 11, in an event held at the House of Culture of La Chorrera, organized by the Nicolás A. Solano Hospital and the Municipality of La Chorrera - through the Department of Citizen Security - the opening of the new Dual Pathology Care Center, which will begin operating on April 25. This center will provide specialized care to women in vulnerable situations and will operate in the former Magaly Ruiz Health Center, across from Feuillet Park.

This important project has its roots in the research developed by UMECIT:
“Severe Dual Disorder Program for Homeless People in the La Chorrera District”, led by Mtra. Kerubis Harris, professor at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences, in collaboration with Dr. Sara Vélez, a psychiatrist at the Nicolás A. Solano Hospital, and the support of students from the Criminal Law Seminary at the UMECIT La Chorrera campus: Héctor Ibargüen, Yudineth Hoy, Astrid Cortez, Nadieska Murillo and Ileana Reyes.

During the event, progress and reflections were shared on the judicial mechanisms that allow for the rescue and social reintegration of people with dual pathologies, highlighting the value of collaborative work between academia, the judicial system, and the health sector.

This is a clear example of how UMECIT articulates the teaching, research and university extension, with a critical, scientific and committed perspective on the social environment.

The event was attended by academic and research authorities from the La Chorrera campus, the Director of Institutional Accreditation and the Coordinator of the UMECIT Research and Innovation Center, along with students from the General Psychology program.
