Start of the Research Greening Project and University Extension
In the framework of the international relationship of UMECIT with the Ibero-American Environment Network rheima and aware of the importance of attention to world problems associated with the environment, the Project for the Greening of Research and University Extension began.
This activity aims to develop a seedbed for research projects, linked to environmental priorities that allow our House of Studies to become a proactive laboratory for the development of sustainable research, from a multidisciplinary approach.
This project was organized in an articulated manner by the Academic directions; of Research, Innovation and Postgraduate and Extension, with the participation of teachers, students and graduates from all the centers of UMECIT.
The purpose is to generate the approach of multidisciplinary research projects that address pertinent problems, that have a positive impact on the environmental needs of the Republic of Panama.
They will be developed throughout 2023 and will allow at the end of the year, the holding of a seminar for the presentation of results with the participation of the active forces of the country and the generation of various scientific products.
The activity has begun in its first phase at the headquarters of chitre, Province of herrera, with the participation of students and teachers from the headquarters of David and Santiago and is being directed by the Dr. Gilberto Cabrera Trimiño, president of the Scientific Council of the rheima.
This event consists of two intense days of work at the headquarters of UMECIT and a third day, to close the meeting, with a field trip, which allows the participants to get in touch with part of the reality in the area, specifically on a visit to the Parque Nacional de sarigua, landfill chitre and the Santa Eduviges community.
It is important to highlight the presence in the inaugural act of the Dr. Melisa Tristán, National Director of Environmental Education of the Ministry of the Environment, who on behalf of the minister, expressed all the support so that in the face of this important initiative of UMECIT and rheima, valuable products can be generated that impact the country's communities and provide information for their consideration in the review of public policies related to environmental problems.
In this framework, he was appointed by MY ENVIRONMENT, to the Eng. Rufino Rivera, head of the Environmental Culture section MY ENVIRONMENT, Herrera, to participate in the conference and establish direct links with local managers, for the sake of the continuity and realization of the projects, which require this invaluable support from the government authorities
As an additional sign of local interest in this valuable activity, the visit of the Honorable Jesus Hernandez, representative of the Corregimiento de Monagrillo, who also expressed his satisfaction with this initiative, which they will be supporting unrestrictedly.
Within the framework of the activities planned for the day, the Research, Postgraduate and Extension Coordinator of the headquarters chitre, mgs anielka ulloa, as well as the facilitator of the activity, dr gilberto goatherd of the rheima, were received in his office by the Mayor of chitre, honorable Juan Carlos Huertas, who also expressed his full support for these projects, which will surely have an impact on the region and the country.
This ambitious project will continue in phase two, in Panama City, on the days April 21 to 23 with the participation of teachers and students from the campuses Panama and La Chorrera
